PURPOSE:To produce a substance having antiallergic activity, by using the fruit body or artificially cultured mycelia of Sarcodon aspratus as the starting raw material. CONSTITUTION:The fruit body or artificially culture mycelia of Sarcodon aspratus is treated with an aqueous solution of a lower alcohol such as methanol to remove low-molecular compounds (e.g. monosaccharide, fat, etc.), and the residue is extracted with hot water. The extract is added with acetone or a lower alcohol, and the resultant precipitate is collected. A fraction having a nolecular weight of >=7,000 is separated by the dialysis of the extract with a cellulose membrane immediately before or after the precipitation process. An antiallergic substance coustin can be produced by purifying the extract by ion exchange immediately before or after the above processes, and if necessary, purifying the product by gel-filtration. It is an excellent antiallergic agent effective at a low dose and free from side effects.
