The invention relates to a mechanical protection device preventing vehicles from passing, in the raised position, and allowing them to pass, in the turned-down position. This device consists of a protection bar 1 which is raised by hand and which becomes locked, in the vertical position, by means of the stud 3 which is integral with 1 which positions itself in the housing 4 arranged in the base 2. The protection bar 1 is locked, in this position, by virtue of a safety means 5 preventing the lifting of 1, and therefore the freeing of the stud 3. The device, according to the invention, which may comprise one or more bases, may be used for preventing vehicles from parking in private parking spaces or from gaining access to areas which are also private. <IMAGE>
