PURPOSE:To provide the titled apparatus capable of cutting the root of Welsh onion at a proper position, by placing a vertically rotating root-cutting edge parallel to a guide plate rotatable in lateral direction and placed at the rear side of the edge, and starting the rotation of the root-cutting edge by the contact of the guide plate. CONSTITUTION:The Welsh onion (a) is inserted along the insertion table 2', the root of the Welsh onion is pressed against the guide plate 12 until the plate is turned to the position of the stopper 15, when the microswitch 17 is pushed to energize the motor 3. The plunger 3'' is energized to turn the root-cutting edge 9 downward and to cut the root of the Welsh onion (a). The guide plate 12 has an inclined part (b') having an inclination angle of (b). When the size of the Welsh onion is large (the case A), it is inserted to the near side of the plate, and when it is small (the case B), inserted to the far side thereof to enable the cutting of the Welsh onion at the prescribed position (p).
