The mounting device for connecting two parts has a mounting element which has a bolt part and is provided on one of the parts which are to be joined to one another, and to which (in the other part) an insertion opening for the mounting element is allocated. The mounting element has a torsion part which can be twisted about an axis lying in the insertion direction. The bolt part is provided with a guide surface which has allocated to it a mating surface which leads into the insertion opening and, with respect to the locking position of the bolt part, is at a torsion angle with respect to the guide surface. In consequence, the mounting element is positively guided and elastically twisted during the insertion process. As soon as the bolt part has passed through the insertion opening, the guide surface comes free of the mating surface so that the torsion part can automatically twist back into its original position about the axis lying in the insertion direction. The bolt part then engages under the edge region of the insertion opening so that the two parts which are to be connected to one another are held on one another in a positively-locking manner.
