An optically active compound represented by the following formula wherein R represents a group selected from the class consisting of linear or branched C1-C4 alkyl groups, C3-C4 alkenyl groups, C3-C4 alkynyl groups, a carboxy-substituted methyl group, a cyano-substituted methyl group, C3-C6 cycloalkyl groups which may be substituted by carboxy, carboxy-substituted C1-C5 alkyl groups, a benzyl group and a phenyl group, and a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof; a process for producing the same; and their use as antibacterial agents.
