PURPOSE:To obtain thermoeconomically a reducible gas containing CO at high concentration by mixing CO2-contg. gas with hydrocarbon followed by modification reaction, in the presence of catalyst comprising platinum group metal and chromium compound, under specific condition. CONSTITUTION:The objective reducible gas can be obtained by modification reaction of a mixture consisting of a 1-4C aliphatic hydrocarbon, for example, and CO2-contg. gas (e.g., liquefied petroleum gas, petroleum off-gas), in the presence of a catalyst comprising (A) at least one sort of metal belonging to platinum group and (B) at least one sort of compound selected from chromium, molybdenum, and and tungsten-compounds. at 600-900 deg.C. The amount of the component (B) to be used is pref. 0.005-1.0 pt. by wt. per pt. by wt. of the component (A), and the carrier for the catalyst should be of a heat-resistant inorganic oxide such as alumina, magnesia, zirconia or titania.
