CONSTITUTION:The content of S of the molten metal is controlled to 0.02-0.08wt% and the soda ash is added to the molten metal at 0.05-0.5wt% basing on the pouring amt. of the molten metal prior to or during casting in the case of casting the cast iron roll for rolling consisting of primary crystal austenite, graphite and a large amt. of carbide. Overcooling is thus effectively accelerated and the nuclear formation of the primary crystal austenite is accelerated by the end othermic effect arising from the desulfurization reaction of Na2O and the boiling effect of CO2, by which the entire part of the structure is uniformly made finer.
