To produce annular colour marks (12) on a helical catheter guide wire (10), the guide wire is selectively heated to an annealing temperature in the region of 200 DEG C to 360 DEG C at the positions intended for the colour marks (12), so that permanent discolorations of the steel are produced at these positions. The method has the advantage that the colour marks are not produced by material deposition or material removal, and that the contour of the guide wire (10) is not modified. In addition, no foreign matter adhering to the guide wire can get into the body of the patient. |
