A process for the moisture-tight sealing of joint or seam regions of insulating tubes applied to pipelines is described in which the joint or seam regions are covered with a sleeve strip of monoaxially or biaxially stretched plastics film and subsequently a shrinking operation by means of, in particular, hot air is initiated, which shrinking operation leads to the overlapping region of the plastics film on the one hand and the plastics film and the insulating tube regions on the other hand being preferably welded together without a constriction of the insulating tube being effected.
