PURPOSE:To permit carrying and rewriting to be performed by providing a memory function of display images by using a system in which heat is used as a writing means and the movement of display particles is inhibited unless heat is applied. CONSTITUTION:When an electric field is applied so that display is made between an upper electrode 2 and a lower electrode 4 and then a thermal head 9 is heated according to recording images, an insulator 8' in the heated portion become a liquid, and display particles are allowed to move freely for displaying. In erasing images, reverse electric field is applied to inversed upper and lower electrodes and an erasing portion is heated for erasing images on the same principle. When the insulator 8 is again solidified by cooling after writing or erasing, display particles are fixed, and therefore images are held if the recording medium is separated from power source. When a heat storing function is provided for the elastomer layer 3, even when the time to heat up each dot by thermal head is about 1msec, during the time when the rotation of display particles is ended, the insulator 8' can be kept in the liquid state, permitting recording to be performed in a short time. |
