MOLD DRYING METHOD FOR CONTINUOUS CASTING MACHINE

PURPOSE:To prevent steam explosion and to assure the safety of operation by heating the moisture sticking to the surface of the molds (cooling blocks with an endless track type and twin rolls with a twin roll type) of a continuous casting machine so that the steam is vaporized until the moisture arrives at the inlet for a molten steel. CONSTITUTION:The surface temp. of the blocks 1 of the endless track type continuous casting machine, etc. is detected by a thermometer and the temp. and flow rate of the cooling medium to be passed in the blocks 1 are properly controlled in accordance with the result of the detection with the thermometer to maintain the surface temp. of the blocks at the b. p. of water or below. The moisture 8 sticking to the surface of the block 1 is thus vaporized by heat in the midway of moving to the pouring side of the molten steel 5 by which the surface of the blocks 1 is thoroughly dried. The evaporation of the moisture is also possible when a hot wind dryer, etc. are disposed on the outside of the blocks to apply heat from the outside. The above-mentioned method is also similarly executable as a mold drying method of twin roll type and various other continuous casting machines.
