PURPOSE:To shorten the time required to heat or cool coils by heating or cooling gas in a furnace and spouting it from the lower part of the furnace so as to heat or cool rapidly the bottoms of the coils by an enhanced heat transfer effect. CONSTITUTION:A coil stand 14 is placed on the floor of a furnace 10, radiant tubes 20 are arranged in the upper part of the furnace 10, and gas in the furnace 10 is circulated with a fan 23 placed at the outside of the furnace 10. The lower suction port 15 of the fan 23 is faced to the lower part of the body 11 of the furnace 10, and a heater 30 and a cooler 24 are installed in a blowoff path from the fan 23. The blowoff path is divided into a path 22 leading to an upper blowoff port 16 and a path 28 leading to lower jet nozzles 17. In a heating stage, gas in the furnace 10 is heated with the heater 30 and spouted from the nozzles 17. In a cooling stage, gas in the furnace 10 is cooled with the cooler 24 and spouted from the nozzles 17.
