PURPOSE:To attain efficient transmission of picture information by providing a means sending a training signal, a means detecting that the communication opposite party does not correctly receive the signal and a means discriminating whether the cause to reception error of the training signal is due to the transmission side or the reception side. CONSTITUTION:In a facsimile equipment provided with a missing data retransmission function, a command signal such as transmission start line is sent from the reception equipment in missing data retransmission and the equipment enters the reception mode to a picture signal sent from the sending side equipment. When the reception of training signal is not successful, it is discriminated that the sending side does not correctly receive the command signal such as retransmission start line or the receiver side equipment does not correctly receive the training signal sent from the sending side equipment. When it is discriminated that the command signal such as retransmission start line sent from the receiving side equipment is not received correctly by the sender side equipment, the receiver side equipment retransmits the command signal such as retransmission start line.
