PURPOSE:To prevent servo data from being erased erroneously, by inhibiting the write operation of a magnetic head for data by a servo data part when specific control data is read out by a magnetic head for servo. CONSTITUTION:In a magnetic disc device, a servo decoding circuit 23 decodes a position signal and a write inhibiting signal S in accordance with a servo signal form a read circuit 22 when specific control data 31 is read out from a servo surface 10b by a servo head 13. As the result, a data head 12 is positioned accurately on a prescribed track of the surface of a magnetic disc 10 on a basis of respective servo data of the servo surface 10b and a data surface 10a. In this case, the write operation of data due to the data head 12 is inhibited in a position of the data surface 10a corresponding to the recording position of specific control data 31, and thus, data is prevented surely from being written erroneously in the buried servo data part of the data surface 10a to erase preliminarily recorded servo data.
