PURPOSE:To detect a damage in its early stage and exactly by detecting a sound of a sliding bearing and comparing it with a set level, detecting a duration which has exceeded the set level, and also deciding it to be a damage, when it has exceeded a set time. CONSTITUTION:A sound of a sliding bearing 4 for supporting a backup roll which has been placed at the outside of a work roll 2 contacting directly to a rolling material 1 is detected by a transducer 9. Subsequently, its signal is processed by a filter 11, a detecting circuit 12 and an average value circuit 13 and applied to a comparing circuit 14, compared with a set level Eth, and inputted to a sliding bearing damage diagnosing circuit 15. Next, a duration of a sound which has exceeded Eth is detected, compared with a set time Te by a duration deciding circuit 16, and when it has exceeded Te, it is decided to be a damage of the bearing, and an alarm, etc. are operated. Accordingly, a malfunction caused by a noise, etc. is eliminated, and a damage of a thrust surface of the bearing can be detected in its early stage and exactly. |
