PURPOSE:To secure a sufficiently long length of attraction-releasing moving extent by releasing the head from attraction by moving a carriage to a crush- stop position after unlocking the lock of an autolock lever at the time of start. CONSTITUTION:The position of the autolock lever 16 is moved from a conventional crush-stop position 12 for a length of L necessary for the attraction- releasing, and is set. In order not to move a carriage 13 during transportation, it is automatically locked by the autolock lever 16. The locking is automatically released when the power supply is turned on, and likewise locked when the supply is turned off. During stopping time of the system, the autolock lever 16 is made apart from a crush-stop 12 for a distance of L. When the power supply is turned on for driving, a pin 14 is disengaged from the lever 16, and a VCM 9 is driven so that a carriage 13 contacts the crush-stop 12. Moving the carriage 13 can be executed with a small force, and its length can be made sufficiently long by optionally setting the position of the autolock lever 16. As a result, the reliable releasing of attraction can be attained with a small force.
