PURPOSE:To improve the operability at document selection by displaying a document name catalog in a proper order depending on the content of job. CONSTITUTION:When it is desired to apply, e.g., print processing to a document stored in a received document file 4, the operator gives a command to a menu controller 1 to display a stored document name catalog list on a CRT 8. A display control section 2 reads the document name written in a document name buffer 5 to rearrange the document names in a proper order according to the job information inputted from the menu controller 1 and the rearranged document name is stored again in the document name buffer 5. When the display control section 2 recognizes that he rearrangement of the document names is finished, an output section 7 is started, the rearranged document name is read from the document name buffer 5 and displayed on the CRT 8 by means of the control. The operator selects an object document name from the displayed document name catalog and the name is commanded by using a cursor, then the text of the document stored in the received document file 4 is read, fed to a printer 9 to print out the object document.
