PURPOSE:To drive a carriage with a small number of parts by providing a driving pulley directly onto the power shaft of a drive source. CONSTITUTION:The driving motor 13 is fitted onto a frame 7 through a bracket 43. The driving pulley 10 is fitted directly onto the power shaft 42 of the driving motor 13. When an image is formed, an original is irradiated with light from the lamp 38 of the 1st carriage 1 and the driving shaft 42 is rotated through the operation of the motor 13. Timing belts 11 and 11 are run through driving pulleys 10 and 10 to move the 1st and the 2nd carriages 1 and 2. Light is scanned on the original and its reflected light is passed through the 1st - the 3rd mirrors 39, 40, and 41, a lens 44, and the 4th mirror 45 to form an image on a photosensitive body 33, thus forming an electrostatic latent image.
