PURPOSE:To control colors properly in the formation of color prints and to reduce a subject color area by calculating the means value of light metering data in an area on color coordinates and the mean value of light metering data outside the area, multiplying both mean values by a coefficient respectively and adding the products together, and determining the quantity of exposure on the basis of said sum. CONSTITUTION:Light metering data and area information 11 in an area 1 or 2 set in a memory, etc., are inputted to an area determining means 12 respectively to determine which area each light metering data belongs to, light metering data inside and outside the area are processed by an arithmetic 13, and the determined quantity of exposure is inputted to an exposure system 14 to perform exposure to a film negative. When the chromaticity at a light metering point is determined, an area determining means 12 determines the belonging area from the area information 11 put in a table. Then, the mean density value of each picture element in the area 1 and the mean density value of picture elements outside the area are multiplied by the coefficient respectively and added to determine the quantity of exposure on the basis of the sum.
