PURPOSE:To give a high recognizing performance by assembling each modified stroke into a standard pattern so as to correspond the standard pattern stroke to the stroke of an input pattern without excess or deficiency. CONSTITUTION:The deformation of a stroke such as deformation of stroke attended with fluctuation of stroke number, demodulation of stroke continued in erroneous writing order or deformation of stroke shape in one stroke is assembled in the standard pattern together with the stroke number of the standard stroke corresponding to each deformation stroke. The strokes are made corresponded without excess or deficiency so as to correspond the stroke of the standard pattern to the stroke of the input pattern without duplication or excess of the stroke number. The on-line character input device with high recognizing performance independently on the order of writing is obtained by recognizing the character based on the accumulated value of the distance between the strokes in this case.
