The method is intended for continuously consolidating non-bonded fibre web material by producing local fibre bonds through applicn. of heat and pressure between a calender roller with a given raised relief pattern and a pressure member. The member consists of an endless belt which passes around part of the roller perimeter and applies the pressure. This treatment may be repeated with the other side of the material in contact with the roller or in a similar second roller and belt unit immediately following the first pass.
