The NMR scanner for diagnostic medical purposes is mounted on the floor of a trailer. The scanner consists of a cylindrical electromagnet assembly which surrouns the examination volume, a magnet support assembly and a curved semi-cylindrical screen which carries longitudinal staves. The screen limits the effects of stray magnetic fields. During use, the traction unit is uncoupled and the front end of the trailer rests on jacks. in transit, the outer screen is slid forward to the front of the trailer to give an even weight distribution. If a side door is used, a variant of the trailer has the scanner mounted sideways and the screen is made in two half shells which can be moved to distribute the weight during transit.
