In accordance with the invention the coking furnace doors are provided with a protective shield in one or more parts which extends over the entire height of the door and which penetrates within the furnace chamber, and a protective shield of this type combined with the body of the door, at least another shield for one or various parts being provided between the protective shields in order to avoid a thermally disadvantageous loading.
