PURPOSE:To use a ribbon wastelessly, by a system wherein a motive power transmitting mechanism is provided for connecting a pair of left and right pulleys one of which is driven by a motor capable of rotating forward and reversely to rotary shafts around which both ends of a ribbon are respectively wound, and the connection is controlled. CONSTITUTION:At the time of a rightward movement of a carrier 12 including a printing action, transmission of motive power to the rotary shafts 4, 5 is cut off to stop the ribbon. At the time of a rightward movement of the carrier 12 not including the printing action, rotation of a pulley 14 is transmitted to the rotary shaft 4 by the first motive power transmitting mechanism 17, thereby rewinding the ribbon 3 from a take-up side spool 5a onto a payout-side spool 4a. At the time of a leftward movement of the carrier 12 not including the printing action, rotation of the left pulley 15 being reversely rotated is transmitted to the left rotary shaft 5 by the second motive power transmitting mechanism 18, whereby only the used part of the ribbon is taken up around the spool 5a. Accordingly, since only the used part of the ribbon 3 is taken up, the ribbon can be used wastelessly. |
