PURPOSE:To provide a method of recording an image by widening a temperature range in which an image can remain stored, by using a smectic A liquid crystal and successively practicing specific means to the liquid crystal. CONSTITUTION:A method of recording image information characterized by using a liquid crystal element comprising a liquid crystal which exhibits a thermooptical effect and held between upper and lower substrates, means for heating the liquid crystal element from the outside, means for giving a corona discharge and means for locally heating with a laser beam and successively practicing the means to the liquid crystal element. The above liquid crystal incudes a liquid crystal comprising a smectic A liquid crystal of the formula I or II (wherein p and q are each independently 1-15) as main component. The use of a mixed liquid crystal obtained by adding a substance of the formula III [wherein R is a substance of the formula IV or V (wherein 1<=n<=15); and X and Y are each independently a halogen atom or CN] to the above liquid crystal comprising a smectic A liquid crystal as main component is extremely advantageous from the practical point of view in that the writing and erasing of image information can be easily carried out and that the recorded image medium can be handled without any external means for holding the image.
