PURPOSE:The titled unit that is provided with a plurality of guides for feeding strands of flat cross section to the front surface of a rotatable cutter wheel, thus producing chopped strands of good quality without adverse effect on their bundling. CONSTITUTION:When feed roll 33 rotates, a number of filament fibers in the guide 30 are collected into a fiber strand of flat cross section and sent to the feed nozzle 29 and a certain length of the strand projects in order from the nozzle 29 so that it extends radially from the axis line of the cutter wheel 16. At the same time, the cutter wheel 16 is allowed to rotate. Every time when the fiber strand extends from the nozzle 29 by a certain length, the strand is cut by the blade 20 rotating in the perpendicular direction to form chopped stands one after another. The resultant chopped strands fall down in the air- blow chamber 35 and are air-blown to appropriate places.
