PURPOSE:The titled catalyst component which is highly active and can give a polymer of good properties, prepared by bringing a specified organomagnesium compound, a specified organohalogen compound and a liquid Ti compound into contact with each other. CONSTITUTION:The titled catalyst compound obtained by bringing the following three components A, B and C into contact with each other: (A) a compound essentially consisting of Mg and an alkoxy or phenoxy group (which may be a simple compound having Mg and alkoxy or phenoxy groups or a complex or conjugate between a compound containing one of the components and a compound containing the other),e.g., MgCl2. alphaCH3OH (wherein alpha is a number of about 0.1-6), B: a compound of formula I (wherein R is a hydrocarbyl and X is a halogen), e.g., a compound of formula II, and C: a liquid Ti compound (e.g., TiCl4) (which need not be used when component A is a complex or a conjugate and the alkoxy or phenoxy group-containing compound is a Ti compound). By using this solid catalyst compound as a transition metal component of a Ziegler catalyst, a polymer excellent in properties can be obtained in high activity.
