PURPOSE:To shorten the processing time of data by performing reproduction while rotating an optical disk at a speed equal to or faster than that in recording upon occasion. CONSTITUTION:A speed part 15 reports a playback speed set with a speed switching signal SS to a reading circuit 14 and an optical head 11 and a speed control part 16 receives the report from the speed storage part 15 and controls a motor 11 through a servo 17 so that the motor rotates at a specific rotating speed. Consequently, reproduction is carried out at a high or low speed. The speed switching signal SS is sent out according to a specified speed indication by providing a control part 2 with a command analyzing part 25. And the command analyzing part 25 informs a data demodulating circuit 22 and a VFO 23 of a speed through a storage part 24 to attain speed synchronism. Consequently, the motor speed is switched between the high speed and low speed to obtain stable playback data.
