PURPOSE:To reduce noise and to prevent the deterioration in the traveling property and still characteristic after storage at high temp. and in high humidity and the generation of clogging of a head by specifying the contact angles with water on the surfaces of a topcoat layer and a backcoat layer and the height of the protrusion on the surface of the medium. CONSTITUTION:The contact angles thetat and thetab respectively on the surfaces of a topcoat layer and a backcoat layer are regulated to >=100 deg.. When the gap length of a magnetic head is controlled to (a)mum, >=2X10<6>-10<9>/a<2> protrusions are provided on the surface of the medium per 1mm<2> of the surface and the height of the protrusion is preferably adjusted to 150-250Angstrom . When the height is at >=300Angstrom , the electromagnetic transducing characteristic and traveling stability are deteriorated and the physical properties are not effectively improved at <50Angstrom . Meanwhile, (a) is regulated to 0.1-0.4mum. Besides, when the density of the protrusions decreases, the noises are increased and the effect on the physical properties are reduced, when the density increases.
