PURPOSE:To increase an error correcting ability by examining a condition of a defect of a tape electrically and using two types of error correcting circuits simultaneously. CONSTITUTION:In a data discriminating circuit 102, from an oscillating cycle from a VFO circuit, a data discriminating pulse is formed, a phase bit is re moved, and a data transfer is performed to a data register. An error correcting circuit of a byte unit, in a condition that a preamble data is not to be detected, and an error byte number is below 7 byte, and when a vertical parity check error is generated by an error of one track, a bit of the error track is reversed from '1' to '0' or from '0' to '1' and corrects. A continuous error correcting circuit when the preamble data is not detected, corrects the error track so as to have continuously an odd number of bits. |
