PURPOSE:To enable the selection of a plywood according to the degree of defects, by providing a defect detector, a control means, a selection separator and the like to detect the side, the number and the like of the defects existing on the surface of a plywood at a high accuracy. CONSTITUTION:This apparatus is provided with a conveying device 3, a defect detector 5, optical fibers 13, a photodetector 15, a selection separator 21 and the like. When the front end of plywood 1 is positioned on a light shielding body 7 with the driving of the conveying device 3, light irradiated on the surface of the plywood 1 from a light source 9 is intercepted 7 to regulate the light received by the tip of the respective fiber 13. Consequently, the detection end of the fibers 13 turns dark from bright and a CPU judges that the plywood 1 is carried into the detector 5 depending on the data of changes in the state turning dark inputted from the detector 15. On the other hand, when the defect 1a is concave, the detection end of the fibers 13 turns bright from dark and the unit 15 outputs the data corresponding to the state of the defect 1a to the CPU, which detects the size, number and the like of the defect 1a. |
