A permanent magnet comprises a powdered alloy contg. 23 - 27 wt.% Sm, 0.2-7% Ti, 3-9% Cu, 14-25% Fe and balance Co. The heat is treated either by (i) annealing through cooling from an annealing initiation temp. 600 - 900 deg. C to not over 5 deg.C/min., or (ii) subjecting to a multistepped aging process in decreasing temp. ranges within 350-900 deg. C. The heat treatment reduces Cu content, increases Fe content, and provides increased coercive force and residual magnetic flux density.
