PURPOSE:To improve the quality of a product by prohibiting the cooling of a molten metal for a prescribed period after the contact thereof with a casting mold under rotation or contact then cooling the molten metal upon lapse of the prescribed time. CONSTITUTION:Cooling rolls 1, 1' are constituted of roll bodies 2, 2', heat trans mission chambers 3, 3' and roll barrels 4, 4' on the outside periphery and rotate integrally. Cooling water which is a heat transmission medium is filled into the chambers 3, 3' within the range of an angular position theta2 but is not filled therein except the range of the angular position theta2. The molten metal 5 supplied from a tundish is not cooled even if the molten metal contacts with the roll v barrels 4, 4' during the rotating angle range theta1 of the cooling rolls. The molten metal 5 is then cooled with the cooling medium in the rotating angle theta2 range of the rolls 1, 1'. The sepn. of the solidified shell formed in such a manner from the surface of the rolls 1, 1' or the reheating thereof is prevented by the above-mentioned method. The cracking and ruggedness of the product are thus prevented and the quality thereof is improved.
