PURPOSE:To run a tape stably along a lead by constituting a rotary heat assembly so that a specific difference in diameter between the upper and lower parts of the drum part of the rotary cylinder which faces the inner peripheral surface of the lead, and varying the diameter of the inner peripheral surface of the lead corresponding to the diameter difference. CONSTITUTION:The diameter of the drum part of the rotary cylinder 15 is varied in diameter to generate a difference in tape floating quantity between the upper and lower parts of the rotary cylinder 15 and the tape deforms breadthwise and travels while wound helically around the rotary head assembly. Thus, the tape deforms breadthwise and travels while tensed, so that a downward component of force is applied to the tape. This downward force allows the tape to travel stably along the lead 17. Further, a lead inner peripheral surface is formed decreasing in diameter stepwise according to the diameter difference of the rotary cylinder 15, so the tape travels stably without entering a gap to be caught.
