The machine includes winding means 31, 32, 33 and 34 which are arranged approximately in a circle around a zone for winding the sheet-like elements and which are capable of being engaged by contact with these elements at least in separate zones which are located transversely with respect to the direction of transport of the same elements. The winding means 31, 32, 33 and 34 are movable with respect to the centre of the roll of sheet-like elements during operation and move as a function of the increase in the actual diameter of the roll being formed. <IMAGE>
