PURPOSE:To arrange a light source separately from an optical system and to form the optical system with the reduced size by transmitting light from the light source by an optical fiber and irradiating an object. CONSTITUTION:Emitted luminous flux from the light source 1 is converged by a converging lens 11 and incident on the optical fiber 12 and this luminous flux is again emitted from a terminal via the optical fiber 12 and irradiated on the object 3 as a light spot with the proper size by a light irradiating lens 2. At this time, since the light source 1 is provided at a position other than the optical system 13 such as a processing circuit part and the terminal part of the optical fiber 12 and the light irradiating lens 2 are provided in the optical system 13, the optical system is constituted with the extremely reduced size. On the other hand, the light spot 4 on the object 3 is picked up by a photodetecting lens 5 and formed an image on the photodetecting face of a photodetecting element 6 in the same way as a well known range finder.
