PURPOSE:To make a connection regardless of the near and far end of a word line and to prevent the word line from floating by resetting a clamping function temporarily at the time of the rising of the word line. CONSTITUTION:A word line clamping circuit 6 is connected to far terminals of word lines 4 and 4' to which a word line clamping circuit 1 is connected. Then MOS transistors (TR) Q8 and Q8' which are turned on and off with a clock phiC for clamping control are added to the word line clamping circuit 6. Namely, the word line clamping circuit 6 is constituted having a precharging circuit consisting of an MOSTR Q7 connected to the 1st power source VCC and the 1st MOSTRs Q8 and Q8', the 2nd MOSTRs Q5 and Q5', and the 3rd MOSTRs Q6 and Q6'. In stand-by mode, nodes N2 and N2' and N4 and N4' are precharged with a clock phiP for precharging. In active mode, on the other hand, the clock phiC for clamping control is varied to a state 'L' before the word lines are driven to reset the clamping function of the far ends of the word lines temporarily.
