PURPOSE:To supply voltage in which motor efficiency reaches the optimum state and widen the range of operation by minimizing the line current by controlling the voltage supplied to a compressor motor based on the drive torque from the compressor and in accordance with the frequency. CONSTITUTION:The drive torque of a compressor 1 which constitutes an air conditioner is detected by a detector 18 and the signal from it is input to a controller 19. To the controller 19 a condensation temperature 23, an evaporation temperature 26 and the output from a frequency setting signal output means 22 are input in order to calculate the drive torque from the compressor 1. Based on a calculated torque, the voltage at which the motor efficiency becomes the optimum according to frequency is calculated. With this value voltage power supply setting signal is output to a frequency converter 12. with this arrangement, the frequency converter 12 can control the power supply voltage output to a motor M at the most appropriate voltage in accordance with the power supply frequency.
