PURPOSE:To further reduce the error of beam landing resulting from the thermal expansion of a shadow mask by properly selecting the width of black films located at given intervals and the distance between phosphor layers partly located on the black films. CONSTITUTION:The inner surface of a panel 5 is coated with black films 1 regularly arranged at given internals to form openings. These openings are regularly filled with red, green and blue phosphor layers 2R, 2G and 2B which are located at intervals (D). Heat 61 radiated upon those areas of a thin aluminum layer 13 located over areas of the black layers 1 not coated with the phosphor layers 2R, 2G and 2B undergoes irregular reflection thereby reducing the amount of reflected radiation heat returning to a shadow mask 4. Therefore, the temperature increase of the shadow mask 4 is reduced and as the result the error of beam landing is minimized. It is possible to improve the error of beam landing by 15-20% by satisfying the formula of W/3<=D<=W-20mum.
