PURPOSE:To realize the easy attach and detach of a reading unit from the side of the upper part of a frame by forming the width size of the scanning direction of the opening window of the box-typed frame to which an original placing glass plate is fixed nearly same as the width size of the direction at the right angle to the scanning direction of a picture reading unit. CONSTITUTION:On the upper part of the main body of a device 10, an original placing glass plate 12 is supported and fixed on the upper part of a frame 14 which is covered with a cover case 13. In the inside of the frame 14, a picture reading unit 18 which is installed on a carriage substrate 17 is arranged possible to move reciprocally. The frame 14 is constitutes as to form both side frames 51 and 51 that are iron plates and an upper frame 52 in one body and in the frame 52, an opening window 55 to which the glass plate 12 is supported and fixed is formed. The width size L3 of the scanning direction of the opening window 55 is made nearly same as the width size L2 of the direction that intersects orthogonally with the scanning direction of the reading unit 18 and when the reading unit is attached and detached, it is made possible to attach and detach from the opening window 55 by a half turn in the horizontal direction by 90 deg. with the substrate 12. Thus, the easy attach and detach of the reading unit is obtained.
