PURPOSE:To improve opening ratio and resolution by shifting up and down by a 1/2 pitch the picture elements in adjacent transfer channels of the electronic imaging device as well as stopping the light to the imaging section while reading. CONSTITUTION:The electronic imaging device 8 is provided with drive electrodes PE1 and PE2 on the regions CB and CW for driving potentials with an insulating layer in between. The driver 10 delivers drive pulses phiPE1, phiPE2 and phiSH respectively to terminals PE1 and PE2 and the horizontal shift register of the electronic imaging device 8. The exposure control pulse phiST is at a low level during accumulation of imaging charges, allowing the exposure mechanism 7 to perform exposure of the electronic imaging device. phiPE2 is an alternating signal changing between the recoupling voltage and the low level. After completion of the image accumulation period, the pulse phiST has a high level to cause the exposure mechanism to stop the incident light on the electronic imaging device. At the beginning of reading out, of 4 pulses phiPE1 are fed to transfer charges of picture elements stored in each picture PC to the one-step lower stage. Thereafter, charges in the horizontal shift register are read out during one horizontal scanning period.
