PURPOSE:To obtain the titled copolymer having excellent thermal stability as well as fluidity, by reacting an aromatic tricarboxylic acid anhydride monochloride, an aromatic dicarboxylic acid dichloride and two kinds of aromatic diamines under specific condition, and heat-treating the resultant polymer. CONSTITUTION:The objective copolymer can be produced by reacting (A) 70-95mol of an aromatic tricarboxylic acid anhydride monochloride (e.g. trimellitic anhydride monochloride), (B) 5-30mol of an aromatic dicarboxylic acid dishloride (e.g. terephthaloyl dichloride), (C) 5-70mol of an aromatic diamine of formula I (R1 is methyl; a is 0-4) (e.g. m-phenylenediamine), and (D) 30-95mol of an aromatic diamine of formula IV (Y is direct bond, -O-, -S-, -SO2-, etc.; R2 is 1-4C alkyl, fluorine-substituted alkyl, etc.; b is 0-10) (e.g. 4,4'-diaminodiphenylether), a polar organic solvent at <=80 deg.C, separating a polyamide amic acid polymer from the solution, and heat-treating at 150-300 deg.C for 0.3-5hr in solid phase.
