In order to realise a set of running gear with supercritical running properties and in order to permit the wheel sets to set themselves radially when going around bends, the wheel set guide is provided with harder suspension in the transverse direction of the set of running gear than in the longitudinal direction of the set of running gear. Each wheel set is guided on each side by a flexurally stiff axle guide which is connected to the frame of the set of running gear by means of an axle guide joint so as to be capable of vibrating elastically about a horizontal axis (21). For the purpose of constructing the axle guide joint in an elastic fashion, the said joint is provided with annular rubber washers (16) which are arranged in vertical longitudinal planes of the set of running gear and are prestressed compressively in a horizontally transverse direction by means of an anti-fatigue bolt (17). By virtue of the shape and the material properties of the annular rubber washers (16) it is ensured that each time they are subjected to prestressing their compression spring constant which acts in the transverse direction of the set of running gear is greater than their shear spring constant which acts in its longitudinal direction. <IMAGE>
