The invention relates to improvements to the device for putting on/removing a tarpaulin according to the main patent application. A first arrangement consists in providing means for braking traction cables, so as to preserve a satisfactory alignment of the tarpaulin with tarpaulin removal means during the operation of the latter. According to a second arrangement, bent rigid pieces are fixed to the tarpaulin to ensure its alignment. A third arrangement consists in providing means for distancing and raising the attachment points of the lower lateral edges of the tarpaulin, especially so as to facilitate putting it on and removing it in high wind conditions. Finally, the means for guiding the tarpaulin over the traction drums may comprise means with lateral tabs 116 integral with a bearing member 112 and engaged in grooves 104 defined with the aid of elements 102 fixed to the upper surface of the tarpaulin. <IMAGE>
