PURPOSE:To obtain easily the attach and detach of a light source made of valve by making possible to attach and detach the light source which is made of a tube body arranged in the direction that intersects orthogonally to the scanning direction in a picture reading unit, in th vertical direction from the side of the upper face part of a box-typed frame. CONSTITUTION:On the upper part of the main body of a device 10, an original placing glass plate 12 is supported and fixed on the upper part of a frame 14 which is covered with a cover case 13. In the inside of the frame 14, a picture reading unit 18 which is installed on a carriage substrate 17 is arranged possible to move reciprocally. In the unit 18, a light source 20 that is made of a tube body is provided in the direction that intersects orthogonally to a scanning direction that illuminates an original A. In the exchange of the light source 20, the glass plate 12 and the case 13 are removed and an opening window 55 of the upper face part of the frame 14 is exposed and afterwards, both end parts of the light source 20 are fitted to positions corresponding to the lacked parts 56 and 56 by moving the substrate 17 and the light source 20 that is made possible to attach and detach by the socket member to the upper and lower direction is made possible to be pulled up.
