The grinding-spindle housing (1) of the thread-grinding machine is driven by a stepping motor (M 1), the same motor also being in drive connection with the transverse shaft (2) of the machine. The drive shaft (5) is driven by a separate motor (M 2), as a result of which the indexing device and the hydraulically controlled positioning are unnecessary. The motor (M 3) driving the workpiece (8) receives the information required for the positioning from the electronic control system. During the circular division, the stepping motor (M 3) and the lead screw (4) are separated by an electronic clutch (6), whereas during the longitudinal division the machine elements mentioned are coupled to one another. A measuring indicator (ml1), the angle sensor and a programming electronic control unit are mounted on the machine. An electronic system permits the immediate and automatic correction of the elements. It is possible to observe the workpiece deformation caused by the temperature change and to correct the errors resulting therefrom. Automatic machining with the greatest accuracy can be ensured by the thread-grinding machine. <IMAGE>
