PURPOSE:To release a user from memorizing character codes and to enable the user to input desired characters without looking for the character codes in a character code list by mounting a coordinate decision means and a character mode decision means. CONSTITUTION:In order to input character, the user looks for a desired character in the character code list displayed on a display means 3 first, and operates an instruction means 4 to set the cursor at a desired position on the means 3. Then, when the instruction of the desired character from the user is transmitted to a control means 1 by means of a keyboard, the means 1 sends the coordinate where the cursor is placed at that point to the character code decision means 7 from the coordinate decision means 5. The means 7 calculates a coordinate on the character code list from the coordinate of the desired character given by the means 5, decides a character code by combining these coordinates and outputs it to an output line 8. In such a way, the user can input desired characters without memorizing character codes nor looking for character codes in the character code list.
