The valve needle (8) of the injection valve (1) is actuated by a control pressure generated by a hydraulic system; this pressure is generated by a piston pump (22) and fed by way of a control line (6) to the injection valve (1), a constant rate of stroke of the control piston (27) having to be maintained. At the start of the stroke of the control piston (27) producing the control pressure a bypass flow line (26) is opened, the cross-section of which continuously decreases with the advancing stroke of the control pump (22). By means of the pressure medium volume flowing out by way of the bypass and decreasing in the course of the stroke a control pressure free of pressure waves and their reverberations in the control line (6) and continuously striving for its required value is generated and fed through the control line (6) of the valve needle (8) without pressure fluctuations causing an oscillating opening and closing of the needle (8). <IMAGE>
