A voltage limiting resistor (4) for an interruptor switch of an outdoor high-voltage switching installation consists of one or more resistor bodies (5) having resistance wires (18) which are potted in epoxy resin and are electrically connected to metallic end fittings (7). In order to improve the cooling, each resistor body (5) is constructed hollow and without a housing, and its interior (24) is connected to the exterior (27) via openings (25, 26) in the end fittings (7). The mechanical cohesion is improved by locating a tension bolt (set bolt) (28) in the common longitudinal axis (14) of the resistor bodies (5), which tension bolt (28) consists of insulating material, is detachably connected to the end fittings (21) located externally at the ends and holds together all the parts, especially in a mechanically prestressed manner. <IMAGE>
