The invention relates to a paper feed device provided for an electrostatic printer and having an improved capability for folding up or unfolding a continuously conveyed paper strip (3) for the purpose of preventing jamming thereof. In this case, a fixed rod (or rail) (26) is arranged perpendicular to the conveying direction of the paper strip (3) and parallel to its surface, and a friction rod (or rail) (20) is arranged parallel to the fixed rod (26) and downstream thereof relative to the conveying direction of the paper strip (3). A paper guide (25) extends at a place downstream of the friction rod (20) and parallel to the latter. The friction rod (20) and the paper guide (25) are arranged essentially along a straight line in such a way that the paper strip (3) is given a curvature of a predetermined magnitude. <IMAGE>
